Advanced practical cources: Organic electronics: device fabrication and charge transport in organic semiconductors (W1)

Field-effect transistors are the most basic building block of modern central processing units (CPUs) in computers and are also used in flat-panel displays. In this labcourse you will fabricate field-effect transistors based on the organic semiconductor pentacene. In detail you will deposit the organic semiconductor via vacuum evaporation and pattern metal contacts on the semiconducting film via thermal evaporation of metal through a shadow mask. You will analyze the thin-film morphology of the organic semiconductor via optical microscopy and analyze the electrical performance of the transistors via charge transport measurements. All experiments will be performed on state-of-the-art equipment.

  • The experiments will take approximately 8 hours (e.g. from 9 am to 5 pm)
  • The report after the course should be written in german or english for bachelor students and in english for master students and sent to the supervisor within 2 weeks after the experiments
